The sooner that you can implement a balanced diet the better, as allowing your children to develop a taste for junk foods like candy and French fries will make it much more difficult to entice them to eat more healthy foods, as they will much prefer the intense sugary, salty or fatty flavors of ultra processed food if they get the chance to eat it.
They will no doubt question why they have to eat healthy foods if you are still chowing down on burgers and cake!
Show them that you enjoy healthy foods, as they will mimic your behavior and likely make the same decisions when it comes to mealtimes.
Offer them totally balanced meals that are made up of fresh fruit and vegetables (half of the plate), complex carbohydrates (a quarter of the plate), and lean protein with a small source of healthy fats (the remaining quarter of the plate).
To make this easier and more fun for your kids, you can invest in colorful labelled dinnerware which is sectioned up to show your little ones exactly how to achieve the right portion sizes!
It’s fair to say that you eat with your eyes first. So utilize colorful fruits and vegetables to your advantage. Don’t be afraid to use cutters to create hearts, stars and other shapes that your children will love.
Unfortunately most junk foods appear to be directed towards children. These foods are brightly colored and shaped in a playful, fun way. So you need to try and show kids that unprocessed foods can be just as colorful, tasty and exciting.
Another essential feature of a healthy lifestyle is regular exercise. This is often the easiest step to implement as children have a seemingly endless supply of energy and often enjoy nothing more than running around like crazy, but it’s important that you can take the right steps to ensure they can build a good relationship with exercise that is long lasting.
As a result, it’s vital that you make exercise as fun as can be. You want your kids to be happy about enjoying regular workouts for years to come! One of the best ways to do this is by signing them up to a sports club or team. This will provide an extra level of commitment while allowing them to gain access to additional socialization opportunities.
They’ll be surrounded by kids their age who they can look forward to working out with! They may also experience a certain level of competition, which can encourage them to stay dedicated to their new sports club or team. As a result, you will increase their motivation to exercise regularly.
Whether you decide to find a swim school near you, source a highly rated gymnastics class or locate a great football team, your children will no doubt be able to get excited about their weekly exercise sessions.
Last but by no means least, it’s a good idea to implement a good sleeping schedule for your children. Make sure that they reap the rewards of a restful night’s sleep. Sleep is far more important for children than adults. Kids can need as many as 10-12 hours of sleep to stay fit and healthy. In comparison, adults can thrive on as little as 5-7 hours on average.
You can start by creating the best bedroom environment. Install some blackout blinds that can block any sunlight from coming into their room. Plus you should make sure their bed is as comfortable as possible. Give your child enough pillows to support their head and neck.
Include steps like brushing their teeth, changing into their pajamas and reading a bedtime story.
If your child is currently experiencing trouble sleeping through the night, try to find out why. It could be due to anxiety. In which case offering a nightlight can help to ease their fears and help them to sleep better. Sleep is so essential for both mental and physical well-being. So make sure you can help your children to sleep well night after night.
