Here’s everything you need to know to stay trim and healthy and still be able to drink alcohol.

1. Choose Your Drinks Wisely

One of the best things you can do is to choose drinks that have not come pre-mixed. You can buy ready-made cocktails that don’t just come with additional sugars but also artificial sweeteners and potentially other additives. 

2. It’s Not About Counting Calories

If you are stuck and can’t seem to shift those last couple of pounds, it’s important to address your drinking habits but, similarly to food, you need to look at portion control with your alcoholic beverages. While there is no need to avoid alcohol completely, you have to remember that there is no such thing as healthy versions of alcohol. This is why, rather than counting calories, you need to look at drinking in moderation. 

So if you are looking for a drink that provides the same merriment as your favorites, you may potentially want to look for something with a slightly higher alcohol content or go for something that is more quality over quantity. For example, many people buy tequila online because they’re going for the quality of the spirits rather than the sheer amount that they can guzzle. And this is something that we all need to think about, that “quality vs quantity” debate. If you struggle to maintain portion control with regards to your drinks, investing in a higher quality drink may cost a bit more, but it’s a great way to keep your portions under control. 

3. Pick the Healthiest Alcoholic Drinks

There are many drinks that, if you are trying to make healthy swaps, will make a big difference and these include the following:

  • Hard spirits. Hard spirits such as tequila whiskey, gin, and light rum contain fewer calories because they don’t have additives and sugar. If you need a little sweetness, you can always mix the spirit with soda water or a squeeze of lime and lemon for additional sweetness. Visit Garden Street they offer delivery service for gin.
  • Dry wine. While wine originates from fruit, a lot of the sugar has been converted to alcohol. And while you may wonder if certain wines contain fewer calories, the reality is that red wines and white wines contain very similar numbers of calories, but some whites have ever so slightly fewer calories
  • Vodka and soda. Vodka and soda are lower in calories. It’s important to remember that if you think that tonic water is the same as soda water, the reality is that tonic has a lot of sugar in it. The best thing would be to go for a sugar-free alternative. 
  • Bloody mary. Vodka, tomato juice, tabasco, Worcester sauce, and salt is a low-calorie drink that contains some antioxidants thanks to the tomato juice.

There are plenty of other options available, but when it comes to being healthier in your drinking, the best approach is to limit your intake.
