What Should I Do With My Life After 50?
1. See the World
Travel is an obvious no-brainer in finding meaning and personal fulfillment. It’s enriching at all ages. Every trip can teach you more about yourself.
Most people assume that only wealthy people can travel. This isn’t true! With the right planning and strategizing, budget travel allows you to explore without breaking the bank.
For example…
Traveling off-season can be significantly cheaper than traveling during the regular holiday breaks or summer vacation.
Familiarize yourself with comparison shopping when it comes to flights and accommodations. Prices can vary dramatically. A little bit of research can save you hundreds to thousands in cash.
Here’s some travel ideas for …
Finally, don’t assume that international travel is the only travel. Chances are, there is plenty to explore in your own state!
2. Volunteer Your Time
Want to find your happiness and also improve the world at the same time? Volunteering enables you to do exactly that.
Volunteering doesn’t just help other people or causes. It also allows you to connect with your community and become a part of something greater than yourself.
It allows you to give back and make a difference. This is empowering! It’s no wonder that people who volunteer regularly report higher levels of happiness than people who don’t.
Love kids? Consider donating your time at a local children’s hospital. Got a knack for animals? Most shelters are always happy for assistance.
3. Take Up a New Hobby
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to surf? Rock climb? Intricately decorate cakes? Try yoga?
Chances are, you’ve had ‘hobby dreams’ for years. Chances are, you’ve had to put pursuing those hobbies on the backburner. After all, you probably had a career, relationships, and family to juggle!
Now is the perfect time to try out a new hobby. What have you always been interested in? What do you think sounds like a total blast to try?
Don’t worry if you’ll “be good.” Don’t worry about your age. And definitely don’t worry about what others will think!
Hobbies are a fantastic way to boost your happiness and cultivate a sense of purpose. Now go find some awesome rocks to climb!
4. Spend Time With People Who Matter
We’ve all had those friends. You know, the toxic “friends” who seemingly drain the energy right out of you. Why is it that we devote so much of our time and attention to those leechers?
To find your happiness, you need to find the people who make you happy. Maybe you already have those people in your life. If you don’t, you need to find them.
Loved ones lift each other up. They encourage you to be the best version of yourself. They console you during your hard times. And they celebrate with you during the good times.
Nurture your friendships…
- Spend time with favorite friends on a routine basis.
- Gift your good friends my bestselling friendship book, “Friends Forever Whatever Whenever.”
- If physically seeing friends isn’t an option, make regular phone or Skype dates.
Feeling a bit lonely lately?
Consider joining a local club, religious organization, or finding a Meetup group near you. If you put yourself out there, the relationships will come.
5. Focus on Gratitude
No matter where you are in your life, gratitude can help put your world into perspective. It’s easy to get “lost” in the daily grind. Gratitude helps us prioritize what matters.
Commit to devoting a few moments every day to jot down what you’re thankful for.
It doesn’t matter how big or small the item is. It’s the acknowledgment that matters the most.
Need some extra help to keep track of your gratitude?
Basically, the more grateful you feel on a daily basis, the more meaning your life will have. In turn, you’ll feel excited for the days ahead, and you’ll feel happier overall. It’s a win-win.
6. Get a Side Hustle Job
Explore a side hustle job – and see where it takes you.
Yes, this is a little bit scary. And yes, this will require you leaning into that fear.
Change always brings up some anxieties and levels of uncertainty.
However, that doesn’t mean a new side hustle gig is not worth pursuing.
In particular I recommend exploring an online entrepreneurial business – so you don’t have to depend on resumes and interviews.
