Aging is inevitable.

And as someone born in 1960, I’m here to tell you: Aging is something you can embrace happily – as yet another stage of an abundantly rich tapestry of life.

And I’m not simply talking about striving to look like a 20-something.

I’m talking about feeling youthful, energetic and excited to get up each day – because your life feels fulfilling, meaningful and like there’s still lots more adventure ahead of you!

As you might know, I wrote a bestselling longevity book Life Is Long.

Inside I share a wide range of health and mindset boosters – for maintaining good health and clarity of mind as you age.

In this article I will be exploring what I consider to be the 3 main keys to aging elegantly, vibrantly and happily.

3 Keys For Aging Elegantly, Vibrantly, Happily

1. Do Things You Love

good aging mindset fun key to living longerAging doesn’t have to stop you from doing the things you love – even if you have to do them a little bit slower at times.

In fact, doing things that you love is important for maintaining your mental health.

You must get out and about – so you don’t feel lonely, bored and like your life is lacking in meaning, purpose or connection.

It’s important to keep yourself busy. And when you do what you do, you must make sure you’re doing that happy and tricky dance between maintaining your independence while staying closely connected to friends and family.

This might feel more difficult as you get older. But if you make the effort, it will be worth it.

If you’re struggling to stay active, you might want to look into moving in with a family member or friend. Or you can look into joining a group to meet new people. And if you’re feeling especially challenged to keep busy, you might want to explore assisted living services to make life easier for yourself.

Basically, you shouldn’t let excuses stop you from enjoying yourself. Instead, you may need to make a little extra effort to make sure you continue to do things that you love (preferably with people that you love).

2. Eat Well

aging vibrantlyAt any age, it is important to watch what you eat and get plenty of exercise. But if you want to age well and stay healthy and vibrant, then eating a nutritious diet is vital.

Good nutritious food will not only keep you feeling good. It will help you to feel younger too.

Make sure that your diet is low in saturated fats and that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, oily fish, and whole grains. It’s also essential to have small amounts of low-fat dairy and lean meat too.

It’s not just about what you eat either. You must make sure to stay hydrated too.

Drink lots of water – because dehydration can leave you feeling tired and confused. Tea, coffee, and fruit juice will also help you to stay hydrated. But avoid overly sugary drinks.

Also remember that you’re never too old – and it’s never too late – to try out new foods! Eating healthy doesn’t have to feel boring and restricted. Have some fun with the meals and snacks you eat! Try exotic fruits or new kinds of foods from around the world.

3. Get Plenty Of Sleep

aging elegantlyWhen you don’t get enough sleep, you can feel tired and grumpy.

This isn’t good for you mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually.

You’ll feel unhappy, cloudy in thought and unable to perform tasks at your best..

Plus you need to get enough sleep to reduce stress levels and empower you to cope with things. Good sleep has been researched to help lower your blood pressure,  improve your immune system and maintain a clearer sense of memory.

Also good sleep helps you to maintain a healthy weight – which is also extremely important as you get older.
