If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, here are 5 ways to find peace in your life, which you can start using today to feel better.
Are you feeling frustrated and concerned that you can’t find peace… at least not for extended periods of time…?
One minute you’re feeling happy. The next minute…pfffft…you’re stressed and your mind is filled with negative chatter.
I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and anxious. I’m a recovered anxiety sufferer.
Eventually I went on to study to be a yoga and meditation teacher to learn more about how to find inner peace. Plus I spent a few years researching positive psychology and the neuroscience behind anxiety.
I developed a go-to happiness tool kit – and now feel greater joy in my life on a daily basis. (I even wrote a bestselling meditation guide called Instant Calm with some of the simple relaxation tools I use.)
Today I want to give you some key steps to happily progress forward in life, so you can find more inner peace in a more lasting way.
5 Ways to Find Peace in Your Life
If you want to live with more inner peace, you must recognize that it’s a mindful choice. Here are some of the things that it’ll take to make it happen.
1. Learn to Accept and Move Forward
When you want to find peace in your life, one of the things you first need to do is accept things that have happened in the past.
Yes, you must put in the effort to move on. And yes, it does take effort. But it’s worth mindfully choosing to let go of negative events and toxic people from your past.
If you’re holding on to negative aspects of your past too tightly, you’ll find it harder to move forward in a positive way.
How to find peace in your life:
Do the following forgiveness ceremony. Take a bag of ice and spread it in your bathtub. Look at the ice and tell yourself that this ice represents your anger and resentment – which is from the past – yet frozen in time inside of you. Tell yourself that you’re willing to finally let go. Make a promise that by the time all of the ice has melted down the drain, you will choose to finally let go of your frozen-in-time resentments.
2. Set Your Own Limits and Boundaries
You should always do what you can to set your own boundaries and limits.
You should not feel guilty about setting up boundaries and saying no to people.
There’s nothing at all wrong with wanting to tell people what you need in a clearly defined way.
You should be the master of your own destiny.
You’ll find it easier to be at peace with yourself when you know what your boundaries are – and you stick to them.
How to find peace in your life:
You need to know and assert your boundaries with others – so you can shut down narcissists, gaslighters, liars and energy vampires. If you’re thinking “easier said than done,” check out my video training here to learn how to be stronger around toxic people.
3. Decide Who You Want to Surround Yourself With
The people we surround ourselves with have a huge impact on our lives and the way in which we view the world.
Your life experiences are – to a large part – influenced by those around you.
Jim Rohn famously said that we become like the 5 people we spend the most time with.
That’s why you should feel comfortable thinking about who you want to be surrounded by – and whether certain relationships are truly positive for you or not.
How to find peace in your life:
Start meditating – so you get clear on who your safe and supportive friends and family are. Mindfully choose to spend more time with these people. If you meditate regularly, you’ll become more committed to living a life of inner peace – because your energy and lens on the world will change. Learn how to meditate here.
4. Find Time to Focus on What You Want
You should try to give yourself the time to focus on what you really want in life.
The philosophy of non duality is one of the things that can really help you with that process. Non Duality is about being so in touch with who you are, that you start to see yourself and the world as one. It’s considered a higher state of consciousness where you find more synchronicity and greater joy.
You can achieve this beautiful clearer mindset through journaling and developing a better relationship with the self.
How to find peace in your life:
Start journaling so you can become more clear on who you are and what you authentically want for your life. I created a special line a day journal for this purpose called Listen to Your Heart Line A Day Journal. Check it out here! I think of journaling as taking selfies of the soul!
5. Unclutter Your World
Finally, you should take a look at your environment.
Think about how your home might be impacting your life and your mindset.
A lot of people seek happiness by buying lots of clothes and other luxury items.
Unfortunately these things wind up bringing fleeting joy… and long lasting clutter.
This material clutter then creates mental and emotional clutter. It’s hard to be at peace in a cluttered home.
How to find peace in your life:
For many people, the simple act of removing clutter from their home gives them space to breathe and feel more at ease and at peace. Start with your clothing – then move on to what’s stuffed in messy drawers. When you feel like a pro at simplifying your environment, move on to furniture and home accessories.
