Because it’s far easier to stop a thought, when you fill your mind with a replacement thought.
It helps if you give the puppy something else to chew on – maybe a bone.
After all, the puppy has this urge to chew on something.
Similarly your mind has the urge to chew on something.
If you simply only try to STOP the negative thought, and don’t give your mind something NEW to chew on instead, your mind will keep going back to chewing on the negative thought.
