1. Poor Leadership

Business owners may think that they are doing a good job but unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. Sometimes things change and what worked at one point, might not work anymore. Either way, there has to come a point where you realize that you can’t handle everything on your own. You may have been doing a good job when you first started in your position and this is great, but as time goes on, you may find that you end up getting in over your head and this is the last thing you need. One way for you to work around this would be for you to try and learn how to deal with different situations. Training courses are great here but at the same time, you should be trying to hire new staff as they can offer new skills to your existing customers.

2. Operational Execution Breakdown

Assuming your company has a good roadmap, the next step to take would be for you to execute it very well. The business mistake here would be not having a clear chain of command. Operational breakdowns, at any stage, can easily lead to the demise of your company. If you have issues with handoffs between departments if you don’t have enough talent, or poor communication overall then this will work against you which is the last thing you need. If you want to take action against this then one thing you need to do is bring in an experienced COO as they can assess your situation and they can also help you to develop an operational roadmap. They can even help you to execute it too, which is always a good thing.

3. Failure to Leverage Talent

One of the biggest issues that you may face when you are an entrepreneur is making sure that you have the right people, in the right seats. You have to be able to attract and retain talent as much as possible. While tech happens to get most of the attention in this day and age, you don’t want to forget that people are your best asset. Make sure that you are not overlooking the backbone of your company and that you are also trying to avoid spending too much time maximizing labor. Sometimes it helps to think about maximizing opportunities for success, and if you can’t do this then it will work against you.

4. Lack of Strategy

It’s not unusual at all for leaders to spend a lot of their time focused on the demands of running a business. They may end up putting less than 10% of their time into strategy and even thinking about the bigger picture. If this is the case then you need to try and take steps to work around this. You also need to try and make sure that you are aware of where your company is going so you can support it in the long run. If you don’t have a long-term strategy, whether it is for your company or marketing, this could bring about the end of your business.  If possible, you also need to contemplate investing in bigger processes, like a marketing tech stack, as this could help you to capitalize on new benefits.

5. A Cloudy View of Finances

You also need to make sure that you have a good overview of how you are doing financially. Working capital is the lifeblood of your company so you need to make sure that you are always putting this first. Make sure that you can pay your vendors and your bills because if you can’t then this will result in you suffering at a later date. If you can, you should also make sure that you are paying your workers because if you’re not, it doesn’t matter how well you treat them. After all, they will not stick around if you’re not paying their wages.
