There are many reasons why being happier at work winds up leading to being happier in life too. Read on to learn more about boosting your happiness in both areas.
In many ways, work is just a means to an end.
It’s a way to earn money to pay bills, and (hopefully) have enough cash leftover to do the things we genuinely enjoy outside of the 9-5.
However, in reality, work is so much more than mere work!
After all, we spend such a huge chunk of our time at work, and put in so much physical and mental energy doing our jobs. Plus, our job makes up part of our identity.
Ideally you should have at least some passion and drive for what you do. But sometimes it’s hard to see the purpose and meaning in your work. For this reason, it’s important to take time to see the bigger picture when it comes to our work lives and our happiness.
No worries. I’m here to help you to do just that! As you might know, I am a bestselling personal development author with about 2 million books sold globally.
And I’m well known for my peak performance entrepreneur consulting!
Plus I created a program to help entrepreneurs to make money online. It’s called Make Profitable Courses Without The Overwhelm.
I love sharing insights and strategies to empower people to be both more happy and more successful. So I wrote this article with the reasons why being happier at work helps you to become happier in life too.
First things first.. Rather than seeing life as black and white ‘at work’ and ‘at play,’ consider how everything ties together and how your life, health and happiness is affected as a result.
Being happier at work means better life satisfaction
With this in mind, you should consider how you can boost your happiness in general and not just outside of your working hours.
How to Be Happier at Work And Happier in Life
Here are some of the ways you can go about boosting your happiness at work and thereby becoming happier in your life.
Re-evaluate your goals
When was the last time you sat down and looked at your goals?
Every so often it’s worth sitting down and re-evaluating…
- where you’re at now
- where you want to be in the future
- what steps you can take to get there
If you’re stuck in a dead end job with no opportunities for example, then it’s understandable that you’ll end up feeling stagnant and unmotivated.
If you’re working in a career that really doesn’t line up with your future goals, it’s not going to lead to happiness from job satisfaction.
How do you move forward from an unfulfilling job?
You need to consider…
- going back to college and university to study and improve your qualifications to get a promotion
- taking some training courses
- completely changing jobs
Sometimes taking a pay cut in the here and now to start a new career and work your way up from the bottom can be worth it long term.
Perhaps the reason you’re unhappy at work is the company you’re in, maybe there’s bullying in the workplace or your boss treats you unfairly. You could seek HR Advice, or you could look for a similar position in a different company.
Improve your lifestyle with better health
When you’re fit, healthy and well this can improve every aspect of your life and happiness.
Basically, when you’re not sitting or standing for hours with a sore back, feeling sluggish and dealing with brain fog, your days will pass more easily. You’ll be better able to do your job and more able to focus.
This means you need to…
- eat well
- exercise where you can
- say hydrated
- get enough sleep
You also need to take time at work, maintaining a clean and tidy environment …and ideally work in a spot where there’s plenty of natural light. This gives your body a natural boost and can improve mood and productivity.
Get organized
Do you spend every morning rushing around like a headless chicken?
If you’re in a stressed out panic before you even arrive for work, it doesn’t set a good tone for the rest of the day.
Some solutions?
- Spend some time getting organized at home to make things run more smoothly for your work day.
- Pack your lunch for the next day before you go to bed so in the morning you can grab it and go.
- If you’re up and out the door early, having some easy breakfast options can help too. Overnight oats, breakfast muffins, pre-chopped smoothie mixes that you can throw straight in the blender are all ideas.
- Have your clothes cleaned, ironed and laid out too so you can get dressed with no stress.
Consider some good ‘life admin’ solutions overall. A few simple preparations ahead of time mean starting the day feeling fresh and organized.
