If you want to live your best life, you’re always going to want to make sure that you’re doing things which make you happy. Now, that can sometimes sound like the understatement of the century. Because as much as we’d all love to find happiness and love our lives every single day, that doesn’t always happen. Sometimes life gets in the way.
Our minds often make things harder for us. They worry, they fear, and they get anxious. And as much as we may have so many things going well for us in life, and so many things to be grateful for, they only ever focus on the negatives. And this can often then stop us from living our lives to the full.
But what do we do? What do we do when we feel off track or scared or just generally unhappy? Even if we’re not able to pinpoint why?
As you might know, I’m a bestselling author, award winning designer and happiness researcher. I wrote a book called “Happy Habits.”
In my research, I learned a lot about how to make sure you develop positive habits which lead to your happiest, best life!
In this article I will be sharing some background on 14 specific ways to make sure you live your best life.
14 Ways To Make Sure You Live Your Best Life
If you know that you want to make a change and you want to be happy, then it’s time to start living your best life. Yes, that’s right – you’re going to let the fears and negativity and anxiety go. Or, at least, you’re going to minimize it as much as possible and do your best to find happiness every single day.
If this sounds like something that you’d love to do, then that’s exactly what we’re going to walk you through in this post. And no, it doesn’t have to feel like a huge chore. Let’s take a look at how you can make this happen.
1. Be Present
To start with, one of the best things that you can do here is to make sure that you’re in the present moment. It can be something that is hard to do when you’re all up in your head and lost in thoughts or memories, but it can make such a difference to how you feel in yourself and your perspective on life too.
2. Practice Gratitude
The next thing that you should look to do every single day is to practice gratitude. This can seem a little crazy, but when you focus on the things you have to be grateful for, it is so humbling. It makes you appreciate all of the good things and look out for more good in your life.
3. Focus On The Positives
You’ll also want to make sure that you’re trying to focus more on the positive things in your life and not the negatives. It’s easy to do the latter, but with a little shift, you can make it happen. Working to welcome more of a positive mindset could be exactly what you need. It might help you to let go of some anxieties and stresses.
4. Slow Down
It’s all too easy to rush in life. But, this is never going to help you to appreciate life and find happiness. It also stops you from being present too. So, you may find that one of the best things you can do is to slow down. Take your time. Appreciate the little things. It really helps you to live well.
5. Stop Comparing Yourself
Something else that you absolutely have to do, is to stop comparing yourself to others. It’s all too easy to do, but if you find yourself comparing yourself to others, it’s definitely going to have a negative impact on your health and wellbeing. It’s one of those things where you’ll want to make sure that you keep this in check. Most of the time, you’re comparing yourself to a vision in your mind of someone else anyway! It’s not always reality.
6. Avoid Toxicity
At the same time, definitely look to stay away from anything toxic. People, situations, relationships – all of it. Distance yourself as much as possible to protect yourself and keep yourself in good spirits. It can make such a difference. And you just don’t need this kind of energy in your best life.
7. Spend More Time With Others
Is there anything better than human interaction? Spending time with people that you love (and hanging out with family you love) is always good for your soul. So, you may find that you really want to be able to make more time to see people – friends, family, loved ones. The more time you can spend with people that lift you up, the better you’ll feel. This will also help you to make sure that you’re starting to create a life you truly love.
8. Eat Well
From here, you’re then going to want to think about what you’re eating and your nutrition. And this isn’t from a dieting point of view, but more of a feeding yourself all of the best things, point of view. When you eat good foods, they make you feel good. And this is always going to contribute to you feeling happy.
9. Move More
We all know how important exercise is, even if we don’t love it. So, when you can, you’re going to want to try and exercise a lot more too. It doesn’t have to be anything wild or crazy, just walking more or playing a sport for fun will work wonders.
And get the whole family involved. Your kids can walk with you or you can play a family team sport. Then there’s the idea of elderly parents. You can find the best off road scooters available online so they can come along. And if they’re able, help them to exercise too. It’ll make such a difference to your physical and mental wellbeing.
10. Be Proactive
But you just can’t stop there, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re being proactive about things too. You just can’t just set goals and hope they’ll happen. You’ll need to think about proactively going after them. It’s a good idea for you to create a kind of action plan and make sure you go after the things you want.
11. Take Bigger Steps
From here, you may find that you also need to push yourself a little. One of the things that sort of keeps us in a negative space is fear of the unknown – and that’s very normal and natural. But it can control your life in the wrong ways. So sometimes, it’s nice for you to get out of your comfort zone and push yourself to do and try new things. It can really open your life up to more opportunities too.
12. Don’t Judge Yourself
It’s also important for you to make sure that you’re not judging yourself at all. If you feel negative emotions, let yourself feel them – but also try to understand them. This will help you more in the long run. Just don’t beat yourself up for anything in life. It’s okay to make mistakes or to find things hard. We all experience it. It’s okay.
13. Say No
Another thing that is really going to help you to enjoy your life (on your terms) and be happy is learning how to say no more. Most of the time, it’s all too easy to find out that you end up doing things for the sake of others. Or you say yes to stuff you really don’t want to do. Saying no can seem hard at first, but it gets easier. And then, you’ll find that you feel lighter when you do it.
14. Have More Fun
And finally, you have to remember to just have more fun. It’s never a good idea to be bitter or resentful – especially if you know that you want to have a good life. Instead, you have to be open to the idea of having more fun and welcoming it into your life. So make plans. See friends. Do whatever you want and need to do to be able to see others and just enjoy yourself. It will really make such a difference to your life.
