Pre-Order Your To Die For Life!
You’ve only got one life. This book is your blueprint to live it at full volume: fully and boldly.
Remember when you first got into healthcare? There was that excitement, the challenge, the sense of purpose. You wanted more than anything to have a successful career in healthcare, right? Now, every shift feels like a rerun of the last. The same tasks, the same conversations, the same fluorescent lights that seem to suck the life out of everything.
It is not that the job is bad, but something feels off. But you probably knew that any job within any industry could get this way, right?
No one really talks about this part of the job. The part where experience alone does not guarantee progress. Now, again, this could technically go for any job within any industry. Sure, it makes sense to think work experience equals advancements, but sadly, it’s not always the case. The part where promotions do not just magically happen because someone worked hard for years. The part where some people seem to keep moving up while others stay stuck.
But here’s the thing; advancing in your career growth in healthcare is not about waiting for someone to notice you, it is about making sure they can’t ignore you.
There is a myth floating around that if someone stays in one job long enough, eventually, they will move up. That is not how it works. Seriously, time alone does not equal career growth. A person who has been doing the same thing for ten years with no additional training is not more valuable than someone who has been in the field for three years but has stacked up skills and certifications along the way. So many people make this mistake!
You really need to remember that healthcare is constantly evolving. The best way to stay ahead is to keep learning. There are always changes, therefore there’s always something to learn.
Hard work is great, but it is not always enough. Yes, you should reread that one more time! Sometimes, it is about who knows you just as much as what you know. That one person who remembers you from a conference, a training session, or even just a casual conversation in the break room might be the key to your next opportunity. Basically, you’ll have to get yourself out there and get visible!
Sometimes, the problem is not the job, it is where the job is. Some workplaces just do not offer room for growth. No matter how hard someone works, they are never going to get promoted in a place that does not value development. Sure, it’s not fair, right? But in cases like this, you basically need to move on, in order to move up.
A different hospital, a new clinic, or even a whole new country can open up opportunities that just do not exist in the current workplace. Basically, you just need to remember that there are jobs in healthcare all over the world that need skilled professionals, and staying in one place just because it is familiar might be the very thing holding someone back.
A healthcare career should not feel like an endless loop of the same shifts, the same frustrations, and the same routine. You truly do have the power to take control of your career, you can push yourself out of your comfort zone, and you can push yourself to learn more, you have the power!
