Every year, Christians worldwide celebrate Christmas Day on the 25th of December. It is a special day full of joy, Christmas carols, gift-giving, church services, Christmas tree decorations, and parties. But despite these celebrations, some people wonder what is the real meaning of Christmas and whether they should celebrate it or not.
How did this Christmas tradition start? Despite the changes in circumstances all over the world, this tradition has stood the test of time. Christmas is timeless and reminds Christians of the birth of Jesus Christ.
Christmas is usually more than a Christian holiday. It is a unique and special festival that is not just for Christians. Many Christians spend time and money traveling to their homes to spend quality time with loved ones. Others visit the country where Jesus was born, but the most common activities are decorating houses and hosting parties.
So many homeowners check the permanent christmas lights cost early and order the best decorations for the special day. Others strive to share the love and joy of Jesus by exchanging gifts. They remember that Jesus gave his life for the salvation of mankind.
The significance of Christmas lies in remembering what Jesus gave and celebrating the love with loved ones and the needy. Regardless of how much a person has or where they live, they can participate in the celebration and discover the true meaning of Christmas.
When reviewing the Christmas tradition, angels feature in Christmas carols and plays. This is because God sent an angel to reveal the good news to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds, who appreciated Jesus after his birth.
Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she would be the mother of Jesus, the Son of God. As expected, Mary was afraid because she was unmarried but engaged to Joseph. So, getting pregnant out of wedlock would cause trouble in her relationship with Joseph. However, the angel assured her of God’s love for her.
Mary’s family and friends doubted her story, but Joseph stood with her in any difficult situation because the angel of God also appeared to him in a dream. Despite the challenging situation, Mary held onto God’s promises. Eventually, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and shepherds and a small group of wise men visited him. They worshipped him and presented gifts of myrrh, frankincense, and gold.
Mary and Joseph had traveled to Bethlehem for a census when she gave birth to Jesus. The town was busy, and all guest rooms were full. Mary gave birth in a barn or stable and laid Jesus in a manger. So, there was no royal welcome for Jesus. This shows he came to experience life as a human being.
As he grew up, he experienced hunger, anger, persecution, loneliness, and later died on the cross. This means that he understands human struggles, which gives Christians joy and comfort. He also taught people great lessons about life using parables and performed miracles. Later, he was persecuted and sacrificed his life on the cross to save sinners who believed in God through him. This is great news worth celebrating.
Christians have all these reasons to celebrate Christmas. They do it by decorating homes, sharing gifts, organizing church events, and showing love to the less fortunate. These are great ways to spend Christmas and make it memorable. It is also advisable to teach children the essence of Christmas and what they should do during this special day to pass on the tradition.
