Injury is the leading cause of death in children and young adults.
I’m writing this article because when I became a new parent I also became very worried about my child.
I wanted to do everything in my power to keep my baby safe.
I’m sure that you too have probably read dozens of articles on baby safety. But there’s one thing that most of them don’t tell you.
It’s not enough just to read about safety precautions. You need a real-world guide that will show you how to implement those precautions daily.
So I put together this quick guide on ” Infant Safety Tips for New Parents.”
As you might know, I am a bestselling wellness author with about 2 million books sold globally.
Plus I founded a groundbreaking video course called The Anxiety Cure.
I love helping people to live their happiest lives.
So if you are looking for infant safety tips for new parents, this short and simple guide is for you.
Learn Safe Sleep Practices
The most important thing you can do is follow safe sleep practices.
You should always put infants to bed on their backs, and never on their stomachs. This reduces the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It’s also important not to fall asleep with your baby in bed next to you, as this increases the risk of suffocation.
You should also keep soft objects, loose bedding, and toys out of your infant’s crib. These items can be a hazard if they get caught around your baby’s neck or head.
Don’t Let Them Be Too Hot or Too Cold
Overheating can cause serious health problems, while being too cold may make it hard for your baby to sleep well.
You should always dress your child in lightweight clothing and use a blanket that covers only their feet. Also, make sure there are no gaps between their clothes and blankets.
Keep your house at a comfortable temperature and remember that babies will feel the cold and heat more quickly than adults do.
Have a Safe Play Area
Babies need to be kept safe from hazards in their play area.
Make sure there are no sharp edges or electrical outlets nearby. Also, make sure that your child cannot get underneath furniture that could tip over onto them.
You should also be careful not to leave your child unsupervised in their play area.
Keep Your Home Clean and Organized
Babies will get sick if they touch a dirty surface or come into contact with germs that are present in the air.
You can help prevent this by keeping the area around your baby clean and organized. Make sure that the surfaces in their play area are free of crumbs, dust, and other items that could be harmful to them.
Use Baby Gates
You should use baby gates to keep your child from wandering into areas that are dangerous for them.
For example, if you have stairs in your house, consider placing a gate at the top and bottom of each set of stairs. You should also use a gate to keep your child from wandering into the kitchen or other high-traffic areas in your home.
This will help to prevent accidents from occurring when they’re not being watched closely.
Don’t Leave Them Unattended in the Bathtub
It’s important to never leave your child unattended in the bathtub, no matter how briefly.
This is because the bathtub can be both a dangerous place and a fun place for your child. If they decide to climb out of it, they could fall and get hurt.
You should also make sure that you don’t leave any objects in the tub while they are playing there.
This includes toys, bathtub toys, and anything else that could be a hazard.
Keep Their Car Seat in the Back
It’s important to keep your child’s car seat in the back seat of your vehicle, where it belongs.
If you put it up front and get into an accident, then there is a risk that your child will be ejected from their seat. This could cause serious injuries or even death.

Never Smoke Around Them
Smoking is incredibly dangerous for your child.
It’s not just the risk of lung cancer that you need to worry about, either. There are many other health concerns associated with smoking around young children.
In fact, it can even cause birth defects in unborn babies. Smoking can also cause respiratory problems in children, which could be fatal.
If you smoke around your child, stop immediately. Even if you are not smoking directly in their face, there is still a risk of secondhand smoke inhalation.
Keep Small Objects Out of Reach
Small objects are the most common cause of choking accidents in children.
If you have small objects around your home, keep them out of reach. This includes small toys, buttons, coins, and even food items that are smaller than a quarter.
You should also put away any plastic bags or packaging that could be dangerous if chewed on by children.
Don’t Rely on Smell to Detect Gas Leaks
Gas leaks are dangerous and can cause serious injury or death to you, your baby, and anyone else in your home.
You should never rely on your sense of smell alone to detect a gas leak. Instead, you should always check for a gas leak by using a gas detector.
If you smell gas, contact your utility company or fire department immediately.
Practice Breastfeeding Safety
Breastfeeding is an essential part of a baby’s diet. However, you should always practice breastfeeding safety to prevent injuries to your child or yourself.
You should always breastfeed your child in a quiet environment, away from distractions. Make sure that you properly position and support your child while you breastfeed.
These Are the Basic Infant Safety Measures
