9 Annual Check-Ups That Women Should Never Neglect

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget about some of the most important things – like your health.

Women, in particular, often put their own needs last, taking care of everyone else first. Women need to keep on top of things like a hormonal imbalance, menstrual cycles and their wellbeing. But if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anyone else.  You need to take charge of your health, so you can enjoy a healthier mind and body.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure you keep up with your annual check-ups.

Here Are A Few Check-ups That Women Should Never Neglect:

1. Oral health

It is recommended that women see a dentist at least once every six months for a professional cleaning and examination. However, many women neglect their oral health and only visit the dentist when they have a problem. Therefore, it is always a great idea to get dental insurance from guardian dental insurance.

Oral health is important for overall health and well-being. Poor oral health can lead to gum disease, which has been linked to heart disease, stroke, and other serious health conditions.

2. Breast cancer screening

lessons cancer taught meThere are two main types of breast cancer screenings: mammograms and clinical breast exams.

Mammograms are x-rays of the breasts that can detect tumors that are too small to be felt by hand.

Clinical breast exams are physical exams performed by a doctor or nurse, who feels for lumps or other abnormalities.

It is recommended that women aged 40 and over should have a mammogram every year. Women at high risk for breast cancer (such as those with a family history of the disease) may need to start screenings earlier and/or have more frequent mammograms.

3. Pap smears

A Pap smear is a test that checks for changes in the cells of the cervix, which is the opening to the uterus. The test can detect precancerous changes in the cervix, which can be treated before they turn into cancer. In fact, this is a huge important annual check-up that women should never ignore.

It is recommended that women ages 21 to 65 should have a Pap smear every three years. Women over age 65 who have had three consecutive normal Pap smears may be able to stop having the test.

4. Bone density testing

Bone density testing is a test that measures the strength of your bones. It is used to diagnose osteoporosis, which is a condition that causes bones to become weak and break easily.

It is recommended that women aged 65 and over should have a bone density test. This is an annual check-up women should never neglect.

Women under age 65 who are at high risk for osteoporosis (such as those with a family history of the disease) especially need to be tested.

5. Cholesterol screening

health womenCholesterol is a type of fat found in the blood. High levels of cholesterol can lead to heart disease, stroke, and other health problems.

It is recommended that women aged 20 and over should have their cholesterol checked at least once every five years. Women at high risk for heart disease (such as those with a family history of the disease) may need to be tested more often.

6. Diabetes screening

Diabetes is a condition that causes high levels of sugar in the blood. It can lead to serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.

It is recommended that women aged 45 and over should have their blood sugar checked at least once every three years. Women at high risk for diabetes (such as those with a family history of the disease) may need to be tested more often.

7. Thyroid screening

The thyroid is a gland in the neck that produces hormones that regulate metabolism. Thyroid disorders can cause a variety of symptoms, such as fatigue, weight gain, and mood swings.

It is recommended that women aged 35 and over should have their thyroid checked at least once every five years. Women at high risk for thyroid disorders (such as those with a family history of the disease) may need to be tested more often.

8. Eye exams

Eye exams can detect vision problems, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, as well as eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataracts.

It is recommended that women aged 40 and over should have an eye exam every two years. Women at high risk for vision problems (such as those with a family history of the disease) may need to be examined more often.

9. Mental health screenings

Mental health screenings are used to detect mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety. They can also help to identify people who are at risk for suicide.

It is recommended that women of all ages should be screened for mental health disorders on a regular basis. Women who are experiencing symptoms of a mental health disorder should seek help from a mental health professional.
