Why it’s Finally Time to Consider Tracking Your Health

Why it’s Finally Time to Consider Tracking Your HealthWhile sure, absolutely everyone out there should start their day off with healthy habits, there’s some that have a way of making it a lot bigger, like, a LOT. Especially when it comes to health tracking.

So, health tracking used to sound like something only really intense people did. Like the kind of person who had a spreadsheet for breakfast and somehow knew their resting heart rate, magnesium intake, and exact number of REM cycles they had daily.

While yes, those people still exist, the idea of tracking has shifted a lot.

Yes, it’s Trendy

Now it’s pretty normal. People track steps, sleep, macros, calories, water, bathroom habits, cycle patterns, stress, workouts, and all kinds of little body details that probably would’ve sounded excessive ten years ago. You got an app for that, there’s those rings people wear, Apple watches, fitbits, you name it. And yeah, it makes a lot of sense why people are tracking this data. It’s fun, people like to see patterns, and people like to show this to their doctor if they’re trying to improve their health. It’s all really nice.

Most People Think They Know Their Habits

Well, they think they know them much better than they actually do. So no, most people don’t actually have a good sense of their habits; they merely just assume that they do. And that’s why it’s going to be for the best to just track it all instead. It doesn’t need to be a spreadsheet; a wearable is honestly more than enough since it does the work for you (well, you still need to manually track calories).

But patterns are really easy to miss when life’s busy and every day sort of blurs into the next one. Besides, a person can feel “off” for ages without really noticing how often it’s happening.

The Small Stuff Adds Up So Fast

Well, it’s not only about fitness. It’s not only about weight. It’s not only about trying to become one of those people who say things like “my body was craving movement today” without laughing. It’s about noticing the small stuff before it starts causing bigger problems. Sure, again, tracking is fun, but you’re not just tracking for tracking’s sake. You’re tracking to see if there are any inconsistencies, if there could be potentially anything wrong here. That’s the point.

For the most part here, if there are any sort of problems, they seem small; they seem so incredibly small. Like, sleep gets worse, and then energy gets super low. Maybe stress stays high, and then steps are lower than expected. And then that causes water intake to be terrible. Which then leads to your digestion’s off. Do you see the domino effect that could happen here? One leads to another.

And even hearing feels a bit different in certain environments. That could very well be another thing to keep in mind here; it’s actually really common, which is why wearables for hearing monitoring might be needed for some people, and hearing health is something that seems to already be neglected by a lot of people as it is.

No, You Don’t Have to Track Everything

You should have fun with it rather than seeing it as an inconvenience, and tracking can be really simple. Maybe it’s noticing sleep trends. Maybe it’s checking step counts. Maybe it’s seeing how much water is actually getting consumed, but maybe focus on one or two things. Again, just wear a wearable, and it instantly does the work for you if you want to go that route instead.
