How to Improve Your Own Health at the Weekend

Improve Your Own Health at the WeekendWeekends are magical little windows where you can return to yourself and pretend you’re the kind of person who has their life together. You know the type who drinks green smoothies, meditates at sunrise and goes for a jog without being chased. But improving your health doesn’t require becoming a Wellness guru over the weekend.

Just as few small tweaks can make you feel fresher and calmer and little less like a Monday morning Cryptid. And if you’ve ever thought about trying massage therapy, the weekend is the perfect time to melt into a puddle of relaxed humanity.

So if you are looking to improve your health on the weekend between work without sacrificing the joy of doing absolutely nothing, here’s how to do it.

1. Move your body, but don’t overcommit.

You don’t need to run a marathon, or even a half marathon, or even go on the dignity of a steady job. You can dance in your living room, go for a brisk walk in nature, or have a mildly competitive game of backyard cricket with your family. The goal isn’t to be an athlete, it’s simply to stop your body from entering full statue mode. Even 20 minutes of good movement gives you an energy boost and helps to wash away the stress of the week.

2. Upgrade your meals just a little bit.

Weekends often turn into carb festivals, but making a few smart choices can work wonders for your health. If you’re having a take out, add a handful of greens to whatever you’re eating, swap one take out meal for something home cooked, or eat a piece of fruit that wasn’t part of a pastry. Tiny upgrades can give you that feeling that your body is thanking you instead of asking you why you’re like this.

3. Embrace the power of rest.

There is nothing unproductive about resting. You’re not lazy, but if your body is begging for downtime, sleep in and have a nap without any guilt. Rest refills your brain, studies your mood, and prepares you for the chaos that will come around on Monday morning. Rest is productivity in disguise.

4. Put your phone in a time out.

Try setting your phone aside for at least an hour. Just one. No doom scrolling, no comparing your weekend to other people’s curated brunch photos. Use the time to crack open a book, stretch or stare at a wall like the wise, peaceful creature that you’re becoming.

5. Focus on one thing.

Do one thing because it makes you happy. Health isn’t just about the physical things you can do, but it’s the emotional ones too. Bake something delicious, work on a hobby you forgot existed and sit outside with a cup of tea. Watch your comfort show without pretending that it’s background noise. Joy is a legitimate form of self-care, and the weekend is when it thrives.

6. Drink water like it’s your job.

Hydration seems obvious, yet many of us spend the weekend fueled but entirely by coffee or Monster Energy drinks. Water keeps your mind clear, your energy steady, and your skin glowing, so consider it the easiest win of the weekend.
