10 Easy Mixed Drinks Anyone Can Master

These famous mixed drinks are easy to make at home and are excellent for impressing guests.

1. Red Sangria

This sangria is ideal for casual gatherings, and it’s even better if made in advance to allow the flavors to mingle. However, caution is advised—this is not for the faint of heart.

1 bottle merlot (750 mL), 1 cup sugar, 1 cup orange liqueur, and 12-1 cup brandy, combined in a pitcher until the sugar dissolves. Three cups chilled lemon-lime soda or sparkling water, plus your choice of sliced fruit. Serve alongside ice cubes.

2. French 75

During World War I, Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, France, produced a drink dubbed the French 75. The mother version of the drink had a tremendous kick, comparable to that of a French 75 mm artillery gun. This version contains less gin.

Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker filled three-quarters with ice. With 3/4 ounce gin, one tablespoon confectioners’ sugar or simple syrup, and two teaspoons lemon juice, cover and shake for 15 seconds or until condensation forms on the outside of the shaker—strain champagne halfway into a flute glass.

3. Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule, invented in the 1940s, has made a significant resurgence and is currently one of the most popular mixed beverages. Perhaps it’s the refreshing flavor or the gorgeous copper cup.

Combine 4 cups ginger beer, 2/3 of lime juice, and 1-1/4 cup vodka in a pitcher. Serve alongside ice cubes. If desired, garnish with lime slices. This recipe yields six servings.

4. Chocolate Martini

Is this an alcoholic beverage or a dessert? Don’t let its appearance deceive you: this chocolate martini is potent yet delectable!

Make a chocolate rim for your martini glass and, if wanted, drizzle chocolate syrup inside. Then, add three-quarters of an ice cube in a tumbler or mixing glass. Combine 2-1/2 ounces half-and-half cream, 1-1/2 ounces vodka, 1-1/2 ounces chocolate liqueur, and 1-1/2 ounces crème de cacao in a tumbler until condensation forms on the tumbler’s outside—strain into a martini glass halfway filled with ice.

5. Spiked Lemonade

This fabulous homemade lemonade is given a tropical boost with the addition of rum; if you do not have rum on hand, substitute vodka.

Dissolve 1 cup light rum in 2 quarts of homemade lemonade. For each serving, fill a Collins or highball glass with 34-1 cup of ice. Fill a glass halfway with the lemonade mixture and garnish with lemon slices if desired.

6. Bloody Mary

Due to the horseradish, this is one of the most fabulous Bloody Mary recipes available.

Celery salt can be used to garnish the rim of a tall drink. Fill the prepared glass to the brim with the remainder of the ice. In a shaker, combine 2-ounce vodka, 1 cup tomato juice, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1-1/2 tsp lime juice, 3/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon horseradish, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish as desired.

7. Fresh Lime Margaritas

This straightforward margarita recipe is easy to adapt to your personal preferences.

In a pitcher, whisk together 1/2 cup tequila, 1/2 a cup of Triple Sec, 1/4 cup of lime juice, add 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and two tablespoons superfine sugar until sugar dissolves. Four margarita or cocktail glasses should have their rims moistened with lime wedges. Sprinkle salt on a dish and dip the rims in it. Serve in prepared glasses over crushed ice.

8. Sweet Old-Fashioned Brandy

The term “antique” was coined in the early nineteenth century. This variety is exceptionally prevalent in Wisconsin. You’ll also appreciate these brandy-based cocktails.

In a rocks glass, muddle a slice of orange, one maraschino cherry, 1 1/2 oz maraschino cherry juice, and one teaspoon bitters. 1/4 cup ice is included. 1 serving 3-ounce lemon-lime soda, 1 1/2 ounce brandy, 2 tsp water, 1 tsp orange juice.

9. White Russian

This creamy coffee-flavored beverage is the talk of the party and is great for any season. A White Russian is an excellent choice before or after supper.

Muddle a few ice cubes in a rock glass and whisk in 1-1/2 ounces vodka and 1-1/2 ounces Kahlua. Then, drizzle 3 ounces of heavy whipping cream or milk on top.

10. Mojito

Mojitos have historically been made using rum, a pleasant and slightly sweet alcohol.

After squeezing a lime wedge, drop it into a highball glass to serve. 2 teaspoons of sugar should be added at this point. 2 mint sprigs, gently squeezed or slapped, placed in an ice-filled glass. Pour 2-ounce white rum and top with club soda in a glass. Garnish with a lime slice and mint, if desired.
