The Paradoxical Commandments

1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
10. Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
I just discovered the above Paradoxical Commandments by Dr. Kent Keith in researching for my BOUNCE BACK BOOK. I've invited the author to come on my Sirius show BE HAPPY DAMMIT -- and will definitely let you know when that will be.

just a few lines running through my thoughts this week
Sometimes, happyness and contentment is derived from life's default. From the basic and simplicity, from the clarity of white. Through deduction, we already know what we do not want by heart. That's a perfect place to look - within. The search of purpose and meaning is but a cliché.
hey karen, i just want to let you know you inspire me albeit the fact your major targets are female. Glad i own a ballsy book and that i've subscribed to your newsletter-- very witty, effective and evreything karensalmansohn-like.
Just a weird coincidence to know you're writing a book bouncing back which happens to be a post title of mine the other day..
hey karen keep up what you're doing, it's just amazing.
Here's another paradoxical quote for your files, Karen! And I love your blo! Keep it up!
Penny Clark
Miami
“I asked God for strength that I might achieve. I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey. I asked for health that I might do greater things. I was given infirmity that I might do better things. I asked for riches that I might be happy. I was given poverty that I might be wise. I asked for power that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things that I might enjoy life. I was given life that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am, among all men, most richly blessed.”
karen,
when i see the newsletter in my mailbox, i find a smile on the face and a wonder of question... how is she going to inspire me today.
that's what you do. you inspire. rekindle and remind. i guess i simply thank you for that.
my quote of paradox? one that guides me thru life?
"I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love."
- Mother Teresaä
