This comment actually goes with "Why aren't you married?"... Although, I am married, I think that I would say, "I want to spend some time getting to know me." I guess this is because I didn't have that time, and now I am having to figure it out around a husband and family. This is okay, but it would have been good if I had learned to enjoy being myself a little first before having to figure out how to enjoy being with someone else. My marriage is good, and my children are almost grown, and I am now getting to know myself better.
You have some interesting thoughts. Glad I "bumped" into your blog.
I think you're a beautiful person with a wonderful philosophy on life!
I was enriched by reading the left side of your blog where you noted how many times things seem not to be changing for the better in our lives when in reality, they actually are!
That helped me to have a good day, and thank you!
re: Stop Giving Me a Hard Time about Being Single. This was a fun, quirky piece. However, your article is vague on one point: By "Frankenstein," do you mean the monster or the doctor? (People often confuse one for the other, and so I often ask.) Of course, the monster himself has no name in Shelley's book, so I assumed you meant, "Even Dr. Frankenstein got married."
If so, yes, Dr. F. marries his beloved Elizabeth, but the monster -- who is single -- murders her on their wedding night. Earlier before, Dr. F. makes a mate for the monster, and then destroys her, again while Dr. is not yet married. In either case, both creatures behave very badly while they are single, and invoking them in the first place -- even in an ambiguous way -- may not be the best evidence for your point.
Have a nice day.
THANK YOU for you article "Stop giving me a hard time about being single." At 25, I still feel like I have a lot of life left to live, but people look at me like I'm some sort of spinster when I tell them I'm not married. Those comebacks were so good, I may have to break them out some time. For some reason, "Because I just don't want to be yet," isn't an acceptable answer.
So, thanks again. I plan to look for your book!
Hey, just curious, are you married with children?
